About Hai-An Pagoda

The Hai An Sangha meets at the Hai An Pagoda in New Britain, Connecticut. It is under the spiritual guidance of the Vietnamese-born abbot Thich Tri Hoang. Founded in 1984, the Sangha provides a caring, spiritual and non-dogmatic environment for seekers of the Buddhist path. It is a non-denominational spiritual fellowship open to all Buddhist affiliations and all faiths.

Venerable Thich Tri Hoang

Venerable Thich Tri Hoang The Venerable Thich Tri Hoang has studied under many Buddhist masters including Thich Tri Thu, Thich Huyen Vi, and Thich Nhat Hanh. He became a novice Buddhist monk in Vietnam at the age of 14 and was ordained at 24. Venerable Tri Hoang has also studied Buddhism and philosophy in India, Holland, France and China, and received a Doctorate in Eastern Philosophy from Leiden University in Holland. He has led Buddhist meditation retreats in Holland, France, and England for many years, and is currently the Abbot of Hai-An Pagoda in New Britain Connecticut. Venerable Tri Hoang speaks five languages including English, Chinese, and Vietnamese. He currently teaches Vietnamese language and culture at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

From Hartford via I-84 West:
Take Route 9 South to Exit 25, Ellis Street. At the end of the ramp, take a U-turn on to Cherry Street; the pagoda is the two-story brick building on your immediate right. Park in the rear of the pagoda or on Cherry Street.

From Waterbury via I-84 East:
Take Exit 35 Route 72 Eastbound until Route 72 merges with Route 9. Take Route 9 south to Exit 25, Ellis Street. At the end of the ramp, take a U-turn on to Cherry Street; the pagoda is the two-story brick building on your immediate right. Park in the rear of the pagoda or on Cherry Street.

From Middletown, New Haven, and other towns south of New Britain:
Take Route 9 North to Exit 25, Ellis Street. At the end of the ramp take a left on to Ellis. At the 1st light, take a left onto Cherry Street; the pagoda is the two-story brick building on your immediate right. Park in the rear of the pagoda or on Cherry Street.
